I just cut mine and replaced with a straight piece of pipe. .
Easier and cheaper to just gut the insides. No cutting, welding or expense
Be CAREFUL. There is a tube midway thru the middle where the air is injected into the cat. Punch around it, not thru it.
Can't speak to the HP gains since I gutted the cat while it was out during engine replacement. I am running Flowmaster exhaust and is seems a little louder but not enough for the neighbors to complain :yesnod:
If you gut them on a 96 model you will get the "service engine soon light". There are O2 simulators on the market that will fix this. You just unplug the (2) rear O2 sensors and plug in the simulators. They work great. :chevy
