I have an error messege that pops up where the MGP and other engine fuctions such as temp are displayed. It pops up every now and then "SYS" It seems to do when the conditions are wet out but not always then goes back to dispaying the engine temp or what ever I have ot set to display at the time. The only thing I have noticed about the vette is that it somtimes almost does not start like the battery is going dead. I believe this is attributed to my Alpine amps for my car stereo and it drawing to much from the altanator and it may be going bad. Is this possible for the error code I get?? 1992 LT1 Corvette
Thanks everyone!
I had the same thing a few months ago. I was in a dealership for another vehicle and the service writter had no idea. He asked one of the techs and was told it was a throttle body error code. Right after that I had it painted and the battery replaced and have not seen it since - at least 3 months and a few hunded miles. I am not sure it had something to do with the battery or not.
Richie, the SYS indicates the CCM (not the ECM, engine control module) has detected a fault. Two of the most common reasons are the CCM has seen the ignition voltage out of range(usaully just a battery going) or the radio head unit has been changed to an aftermarket unit that has a different resistance in the backlight dimmer circuit which the CCM takes to be an error(which can be fixed easily). There are a few other things that can set the SYS, but they don't effect the engine.
I have had the SYS problem for 3 years and just live with it. It shows every so often and has not effected performance. Since I dont drive the car much it really doent bother me. It started after I had some AC work.
The aftermarket head unit has been in for over a year now with no prblems. I will change the battery and see if that doesnt make the difference.
Thanks!
