Once again, I need some opinions about my ragged out vette!!!!! Yesterday I was coming home, when I noticed a trail of white smoke coming from my car. I got home, and checked it out. It was not coming from my exhaust, it was coming from my motor. No overheating, just smoke. The smoke was boiling out from somewhere underneath, coming up between the valve covers, and under the TPI. I looked under the car and saw oil dripping down. My dad and father in law told me it could be the rear main or the intake manifold. Have any of you ever had this happen, and what was the approximate cost of repair? I don't think this is anythiing i'll be able to fix on my own, and I'm just preparing myself to fork it over to the mechanic.
Thanks.....anyone else have any ideas, please send em here. I'm gonna check it out this afternoon and i'll let you know what i find out. but i'l be on here until 2 central time

Re: Help!!!! Massive Oil Leak!!! (eric_daniel)
If it's been leaking a while, it will be hard to tell if you have a bad intake manifold leak or if the oil pressure sending unit is the cause. You'll probably have to clean up the area, then fire up and visually inspect the area.
I used a 50-50 mix of water and Simple Green. Soak the area pretty well and let it sit for a few minutes. Then hit it with as much pressure as your hose will allow.
That should give you a clean area to inspect and find out WTF is going on.
Check the easy stuff first. Check the valve covers for leaks.
Check the distributor gasket for leaks.
Use some Gunk engine cleaner and clean all the old oil off so you can see where the leaking oil is coming from.
Not to worry, they ALL leak sooner or later.
Leaks aren't usually "too" expensive to fix.
MAKE SURE THE OIL LEVEL DOESN'T GET LOW WHILE YOU ARE FINDING THE LEAK.
Not sure what year vette you have, but I have a 95 with an LT1. I had a leak at the rear of the intake manifold. GM used faulty gasket sealant in 95 which caused leaks around the intake manifold. Mine smoked as well when I drove it long enough and the underneath of the car was covered in oil. Mine was actually bad enough to stall the car at times. It costs around $500.00 to get the Gasket replaced.
Sorry guys I haven't replied, I have been soooo busy at work and haven't had a chance to reply. I found out what the leak is. I am not mechanically inclined and realized later that it was just dark transmission fluid. I ruled out the pan b/c we changed it out and now we can see that its coming out from the front of the transmission close to the fly wheel. I was told it could be a shaft in the transmission, the front seals, or it may just need a new transmission. Anyone else have any ideas? Prices to have them fixed? mash do you know any good vette transmission guys in ft worth?
ck the local dealer i got a price on a crate trans from hiedlberg in hurst for $1400 from gm.If it turns out its the intake maybe we can all get together and we can have a intake seal replacement party.
