Replacing PCV with Breather/filter???

Replacing PCV with Breather/filter???
Has anyone removed the host on their LT-1 and just stuck a filter in the hole? The sending unit for my FP gauge from my schrader valve gets in the way of the stock hose.

For the first 10k miles on my new motor (TPI) I ran breathers instead of PCV. At 10k miles I pulled the motor to replace EVERY SINGLE GASKET because oil leaked by them. Run pcv.

Well youngster. It's hard to remember that far back, but there was a time in BSS (Before Smog Stuff) when we did not have PCV valves and all we knew was breathers on the valve covers. Seemed to work OK back then. You do get some oil vapor in the engine compartment though and things get dirty. I have seen breathers with tube fittings so you can run a hose down under the car and let the vapor vent there.
If you run breathers keep them clean so you do not build up pressure in the block. DO NOT use plugs that seal off the holes.

I prefer to think ahead of the old days and use the PCV system. the more vacum in the crankcase the better ring seal and CLEANER OIL. the PCV extends the life of the oil. Just make sure the system is all in good shape like the grommets and PCV vlave itself and the hoses and Throttle body Passages.
