Default Fog Light Operation

I used to be able to pull the lightswitch 1/2 way and the fogs only would come on, now for some reason the headlights pop and are not lit at 1/2 pull. Is there some trick? or do I have an electrical glitch. I liked running with just those fogs on and the headlights shut.

Thanks.

It sounds like a glitch in the headlight control unit.

On an '88 it's located in the lower LH front of engine compartment.

The Wht wire should have power when in Off & Park positions; the Yel wire should have power in the headlight On position.

if i pull my light switch all the way out, the headlights will come up. if i then push it in to the half way position, the headlights will go off, but stay up. Maybe you are pulling the switch out too far, making the headlights come up, then pushing it back to the parking light position?

Thanks guys, sounds like it's my headlight control unit, they worked great for a couple of months and then didn't work properly. You should be able to pull it 1/2 way and get fogs only. No way do I want to ride around with headlights popped and not on. The old electrical C-4 nightmare is starting to bite me.

Thanks.

The way mine works is, if you have the fog light switch on, they should come on with the first notch of the main light switch along with the parking lights. The headlights should stay down. Pull all the way and all should come on if your fog light switch is on. But to get the headlights to stay up and the lights to go out (if you want to wash the headlights, for instance) you have to go from the full out position on the switch and push it back in one notch.

If that helps at all.

:iagree: you explained it much better than i did big jim
i thought maybe you were pulling the switch out to far, making the headlights go up, and then pushing it back to the parking light position
