Default Water Pump Question...

OK, I had a Meziere water pump installed, all went well, they put a relay in and blah blah blah all great, BUT, they told me that if the car is in the "on" position, the pump will turn on, even before I crank the car, so I can only use accessories in the position where you turn it back from the off postion. Seems OK, and I checked it and you can hear the thing pump when you first turn the car on before cranking...

My question is... what's the worst that could happen if it is running accidently and the car isn't cranked? Any issues?

Almost as weird as my MSD question

To me that's the way it should be set up. Run only circuit. Think about your fuel pump, it only runs with the ignition in run only. If you can hear it run from inside your car, it makes for a nice check to see if it runs okay. You are not going to believe this, but I'm looking for that circuit, run only circuit, right now for my Mez pump. I just answered my own search question, the fuel pump circuit. That would make a good signal circuit for my relay. Glad you asked the question. BTW, how do you like the results of your Mez install?

The only problem I see with this circuit is how to get it to the engine compartment. There has to be a circuit in the engine compartment.

It would run the battery down, but his could take 15/20 minutes.

Strick, I believe the fan relay will also work, and it is easy to access.

Besides, who leaves the ignition in run with the engine not running?

Eh, can't tell a difference yet, but I'd say it does cool down QUICKER, but not necessarily keeping my car cooler at all times. After programming and all of that I'm sure it'll help a lot more. I put a 160 stat in too, so when the time comes it'll run cool. Looks nice though! ;)

I'm not sure that's the way I want to go. I want the water pump to run all the time the engine is running. The fans don't always run and they are controlled by the ECM. As far as the power source for actually running the pump, I'm going to run a 10 gauge wire directly from the Hot always jump junction, right behind the battery, red wire bolted to terminal block. Actually, it's the same junction block that the fans get their power from with the signal for the fans coming from the ECM. I'm glad I have book 2 of the Helm manuals. Thanks

Hey bowtie,

Did you feel any power difference? I can't wait to see if it makes a difference in traffic with the a/c on. This upgrade just makes sence to me. Yes, it looks cool too. I'm just surprised that Meziere didn't have better wiring instructions and better wiring components. Painless looks to have a nice wiring kit for electric water pumps, but $30 for wiring and a relay seems high.

I didn't FEEL any power difference, but I told myself time and time again in my mind that I wouldn't, so who knows. I figured when I got the car back that I'd be so hyped I'd imagine that 10 hp gain with every part.

So is it BAD for the thing to run if someone happens to leave my car in the on position without the motor cranked?

The only thing I can see is running the Battery down. The water will just circulate which isn't a bad thing. Can you do me a favor and see if you can see extactly where he connected the signal wire that runs to your relay? Thanks man
