Default head switch?

hey guys. I have a 88 COupe with the L-98 in it. recently I was told I can put LT-1 heads on it and they will bolt right up. is this true? If so what all LT-1 parts will work? and what kinda hp gains can I get out of it.

Welcome. :) Whoever told you the LT-1 heads would bolt right up is mistaken. At least I've never seen that done. You can though modify an LT-1 intake manifold and use that.

it sounded funny to me. I dunno if I wanna go through all that just to have the LT-1 intake manifold. I was also thinking about doing the SDPC vortec head kit. does anyone have experience with it? also what can I do to have more power at high rpm's?? it has great tourgue at lower rpm's but over 4000 it just slacks :boxing

The first thing you want to do is sitdown and decide what you want out of your car in the end and how much you are willing to spend to get it there. Do you want a car that wins stoplight wars, one that is a highway warrior, a handling king, or something else that you have on your mind. Everybody wants 'more' power, but what kind of power do you want. :)

Congrats on chosing a good year to start with.

There are several things you can do to improve top end breathing; it all depends on your goals.

On the cheap you can use the siamese base with stock runners and ported plenum to pull to the 6k RPM range. There are of course siamese runners, LT runners and super-ram intakes combined with BM base or the mini-ram intake.

But first do some other air flow mods:
-exhaust
-coolant
-intake
-cam
-valve train
-head pocket porting

Check out the results of L98 mods data on my site for some idea of some popular power adders.

BTW is it an A4 or a 4+3 tranny?

it's a a4. and the power I'm looking for is in between the stoplight wars and highway warrior status. I dont need something that will do 200mph. I am looking for more mid range power and of course more low end :D my goal is high 12s low 13s all motor without having to bore the motor.

ohh yea. so far I've decided future plans are going to include B&B exhaust, long tube headers, BPP intake, throttle body, throttle body air diffuser, new heads ( not sure what kind yet), cam, intake runners, thermostat, chip, shift kit, tourque convertor, and a beefed up tranny. hopefully that'll put me in the 12s on drag radials. and btw I do have 1 mod. I gutted my maf sensor.

With those mods you can indeed run 12s and have a very streetable car.

A shift kit would be a nice adder when you do the TC.
