Default Headlight Problem?

I am having a problem with my 96's headlight. The drivers side pops up all of the time, but the passengers side only pops up about a fourth of the time. I want to fix it but don't know what it is. Also the film on the console is rubbing off and I was wondering if there is a replacement film. Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

Is the bucket catching on something, does the motor just stop moving, or does the motor keep spinning and the bucket doesn't move?

I have the same deal with that coating on the console, shiny underneath. Nobody seems to have a material to recoat it.

 Sorry, I have no suggestions on the console, but there is a wealth of valuable and correct info on headlight problems in the Tech Tips section of the Forum

I think a lot of people will be watching this post to find a cure for the peeling rubber coating on the console. You will find your problem with the headlight. This console gig is going to be interesting. I know I am watching.

I had the same prob with my 94 on the headlight. Gm didnt do the best job on the specs for the main gear. Mid America sells a bushing kit that will most likely fix your problem #601-703, it runs around $5, go ahead and buy 2 kits because you will eventually need and it and probably once you see what has gone bad. The reason it comes up part of the time, because the old bushings have disintegrated and occasionally it will catch. The kit is fairly easy to install. Once you get the motor out, the bushings are underneath the cover that has the shaft that turns your headlamp. have fun

Howdy Again! I also agree that the headlight motor has bad bushings and if you have a little extra $, you can have it rebuilt in Houston. Just remove the whole headlight and door assembly, take it to VetteZone in Houston, 15817 North Freeway (I45) north of FM 1960 281 877-8388 ask for Abiel Gudino. He can remove motor, rebuild it with new bushings, and reassemble for about $70 including parts and labor. takes about 2-3 hours. He he did for me on a saturday. Parts are about $15. If you need help, email me and I can help you remove it, I am 15 min .away from VetteZone. If you want to remove the motor and rebuild yourself, there are directions in the search forum and tech tips site under Tools.

There is a paint and fix for your console peel on the search forum. If the peel is small, you can buy a flat black tape(dull black) from AutoZone and patch it. It is a close match. The repaint job is time consuming . You have to remove the console strip off the rubber coating and then repaint with new rubber coating.
