Default I failed my emmisions exam

I failed the idle which is supposed to be 220 for hydrocarbon and my Vette was at 967  . CO% at 1.2 while I was at 1.35 (not too bad)
I passed the cruise emmission though. I'm trying to find what is making my idle rich and why at cruising it's not so bad. And I don't have a cat but since at cruise I'm passing maybe I don't have to worry about a new one (Maybe)

It sounds to me like you are going to need a CAT to pass the emissions testing.

My '88 had the air pump disconnected from the centre cat, and the car failed.

Hooked up the hose, PASS.

Put the cat back on .

I vote O2 sensors. Besides they're pretty cheap, easy to do and help mid range performance. A cat wouldn't hurt either.

Damn these CATs to 'ell... Looks like I'll have to get one after all. Would the cat also help with a rich mixture?

My O2 sensor is not that old 2years, but due to hte length it's been located I should get a heated sensor or relocate the bung in the collector

I think heated sensors are pretty much required on long tubes. Although, if you take it to the smog station after it's been heated up the sensors should be hot enough to work.
