Default L98 rear end ratios

I read some of the recent posts on the hazards of a 3.74 ring and pinion in an L98 the point is well taken. I was planning on changing my gears from a 3.07 to a 3.74 on my 85 auto but I am going to convert to a 6 speed at the same time. I do plan on going with a miniram eventually, I know these help with topend. I don't have plans for any extensive dragracing or auto x, just a gutsy weekend cruiser/mustang muncher.
Your suggestions please

hhmmm... If you drive this daily, a 3.73 might be a little much, even with the eventual miniram. Perhaps you should go with a 3.45-3.54. You'll still get great acceleration, and save some on your fuel economy and tires.

BTW, are you swapping just the gears or the whole diff? If you are putting in a new differential, and the 3.07 is in good shape/low mileage, give me a holler. I would love to get a 3.07 in mine! :D

Just doing gears, car has 130K but I've seen quite a few 3.07 D36's on the for sale forum and ebay

If youre going with a 6speed, I think you really should wait until you can do D44 with 3.73 instead of doing the D36 ring&pinion.

My 89 6 speed has 3.31 or 3.33, whichever one it is.

I find it's a great gear.

I think the 3.45 rear is good with the Dana 44 and six speed. The 3.07 is good with the automatic if you want to retain some top end. If you are making any kind of power, switch to the Dana 44. I run an automatic and the Dana 44 with 3.45s with my 383 but you lose top end with this combination. I don't really care about top end so it's all in what you want. The six speed is really more flexible with gears like the 3.45 or 4.09s etc. for your kind of driving.
