I don't know the real name but I need to replace the funnel that air cleaner sets into and channels air to the throttle thingy. Anyway, I have a real good shop manual but this part is so simple they don't include any info. Problem is I see to ***** on top, that look just like the ones used to get to the filter, that look like they screw into the top of radiator schroud. I turned both these out but they seem to keep turning hard without releasing. Any help? :_dupe:
There was or IS a tech tip for the air cleaner screws on top. When they keep spinning, you have a problem and theyre really hard to get off.
The tech tip basically says when you get the air cleaner housing off,the 2 screw studs that hold it on,you drill 2 holes and POP RIVET them in place so they wont keep spinning the next time around you need them off.I did this mod myself and it works great.
To get them off, youre gonna have to try and push the ***** sideways and then take them off, sorta force the studs to get stuck in there somewhere. If all else fails, see if you can take off the top radiator shroud and take the air cleaner housing off with it and then take it from there.Or cut the ***** off and then modify the shroud studs with rivets to stay in place and use new *****.
I just replaced this on my 89. The studs those ***** are on are supposed to lock into a slot on the top of the shroud. One of mine came off no problem, the other one just spun around. You can try to wiggle the **** enough to get it back into the slot, but I ended up jamming a flat-blade screwdriver between the shroud and the plastic housing up against the stud enough to allow me to unscrew the ****. When I replaced the housing I made sure the stud was locked into the slot.
