Default Accel 300+ Ignition: problematic?

I hear about the MSD 6 all the time, anyone with negative experiences with the 300+ unit? Reason I ask is that I bought one and the damn thing crapped out on me a day later. That, and I think it's starting to melt my distributor cap at the coil ground....

Jeg's was very cooperative and is sending me a postage paid return label, I just wanted to see if this is representative of the Accel units and the aftermarket ignition units as a whole?

I have an Accel 300+ unit my neighbor originally had on his '96 LT4. He washed the engine and the water ran down the wiring to the Accel unit and into the case through the wiring grommet. He took it for a ride and came back on a flat-bed.
After he gave it to me, I repaired it (since I have an electronics background, it wasn't difficult). After replacing the bad components, I sprayed the board with Conformal coating, which is intended to make it water proof. I also sealed the wiring and grommet with RTV. I tried it for a couple of days, and I simply don't like it. It is just something else to go wrong. It is on the shelf of my parts cabinet.

Oh, by the way, the Accel adds say it is water proof.....yeah.

I had mine for about 4 years until it was fried last summer. I suspect that the shop that did some of my top end work last year was responsible as opposed to the box itself failing. At any rate, it was out of warranty and I replaced it with the Digital 6 from MSD based on feature set.

In addition, it is very prone to failure with respect to water getting near it. It's not waterproof. I also sprayed the internals of mine similarly to the other post in this thread. It worked great for me for those 4 years. I did not appreciate the noise it made, but they made a noise suppression kit that you could add to the 300+ to quiet the ticking noises it made. I never bought that myself.

I know that many on this board (outside of the SuperRam) are not big Accel fans. I see tons of bad postings on the injectors and other pieces parts, but I've generally had really good luck with the Accel stuff.
