I attempted to install my ATI super dampner onto my assebled long block which is not in the car, only to find out that hole in which the balncer installer bit goes in is counter sunk,it will not reach the treads inside of the crank shaft its made by Callies. The over the couner installer from Auto Zone will not work ,and I was informed by a friend that we should'nt use a hammer on it so now I'am stuck can'nt install my motor untillI get the balancer ,and pulley on (8-rib). TIA for any advice.

Have any pictures? The installer I used (I think about $50 from Summit) had a relatively long thread that you spun into the crank and then you twisted whatever adapter onto it you needed.

Sorry SCORP I do'nt have any pictures,it's the Callies Race Master ,I asked ARE after they shipped the motor to me.I was looking in Summit just a minute ago I saw to pulley kits one was Morso for about $49, the other was a Summit kit for $94.I'am almost possitive all that I need is just about a 1/4to1/2inche more at the most to get a grabon the tread.
Re: Having promblems with harominic balancer install. (GREENREAPER90)
I am not familiar with the ATI, but the Summit balancer that I installed on my son's Nova recomended putting the damper in boiling water for 15-20 minutes, apply a light film of oil, lay a block of wood on it then drive it down with a big hammer. I actually used a tire changers hammer that has a big hard rubber head on it. Two whacks and that darn thing seated. The whacks were not all the hard either.
At first I did not want to do it that way, but as in your case I did not have anything long enough to catch the threads. I intended to only drive it on far enough to get a bolt started.
Re: Having promblems with harominic balancer install. (GREENREAPER90)
I had to go down to the local hardware store and buy a grade 8(?) bolt that was 6 inches long, might have been 5 inches, it has been a couple of years. I used it to get it started until the real bolt would fit.

Please dont take a BFH to your long block. :nono: I went to AutoZone and they had a loaner balancer install tool and it worked perfectly for my '86. It came with all sorts of fittings and bolts for different cranks and balancers. Give that a shot.
