I have an lt1 A4 want to put long tubes headers on but don't want to loose cats.......can i match the horse power from longtubes with shorty's and catback? I like power effects mufflers!
Re: shorty's and catback comb question??? (redcorvettedave)
I have shorties and NO you don't get the power increase that long tubes give you, BUT I haven't seen any one put cats on long tubes. The shorties look better than my old rusty manifolds and they eliminate heat much better and I still have my cats for the Feds. As far as catbacks, shorties are the same as OEM and any catback bolts right up. If you do go shorties, give Jet Hot a call, their Hookers with their Sterling coating are really nice.
You have the Power Effects Catback system? How do you like it? I think that's the ticket for me if I ever round up enough money.

No you cant match the power. A forum member who went to Clemson with me had PE and shortys on his 94 6-speed, i loved the sound, but it was not really that loud. Id have to attribute that to the car not having longtubes.
On an automatic, youll be cutting and welding to get bullit cats to fit in there with longtubes.

don't have the power effects yet... i'v got them on back order waiting on joe at power effects. but for $1200 ....i sure would like more HP from a catback..
love there sound heard them on a sound clip from the search on PE....but 15 to 20hp for $800 sounds better than 10 to 12hp for $1200...
