Hi! I'm new here and have a real problem!
:banghead: Any help with this would be highly apprciated!! I have a 86 Corvette with only 15,000 on it that I bought from the oringinal owner 2 yrs ago. It only had 7300 miles when I bought it. The only problem I had with the car was that once and a while when I went to start her the security system would shut down everything and I had to wait 2-3 minutes for it to reset then it would start.

This started to happen more and more frequently. When I would go to start it everything would ground out..........if I had the radio on as soon as I turned the ignition it would shut off and the radio antena would start to go down as soon as I released the ignition it would go back up. :confused: It just kills everything when you turn it.

Now just from non use I decided to get a new Battery. I bought a Optima Red Top becuase they are supposed to go a long time without needing recharging.

Ever since I got the new Battery the Car is dead. When I turn the ignition it just grounds everything. My ditgital readout says its got 12.8 volts. :confused: Is my Computer shot? Can I bypass the Security system? Am I screwed? Any help would be REALLY apprciated!! Thanks a bunch for your time....................

 

the antitheft system on the vette does not work like that. look into an ground problem starting aat the battery and work your way back :flag :party:

 

Thanks. I apprciate the reply!! The reason I thought it was the anti theft system is that It would do it and then seem to reset itself. After 2-3 minutes it would be fine until the next time. And that next time got more and more frequent until lately when I changed the battery (What a pain in the butt that was!! but thats a different thread) and now it seems permantly "grounded" . Its just like it was...........except now it won't reset. I praying my Computer isn't bad........... :nonod: any more ideas? suggestions? thanks again.........

 

First off, if it were the computer (ECM) it wouldn't be that big a deal. They're not expensive. I'd be looking at the starter though.

Would that cause it to ground out when I go to start it? kiss.........I hate to throw her on a flatbed but I really don't have a clue. :confused: Thanks anyway.............
