Default Just had to replace my brake booster again.

I spent the last two hours searching for and installing a brake booster again. I put one in last summer and it just went bad. It was under warranty still, but they didn't have any in the warehouses so the place I bought it from (Autozone) couldn't even order it. They told me if I went out and bought a new one so I could bring the one back I bought from them I would get a refund plus they would buy my core for $35.00 so I would come out even, so thats what I did.

Turns out the one I got from Advance auto parts is made of a rather square looking metal canister. I put it in and man...it makes a HUGE difference. I think my brake pedal is allergic to my foot now...that or it is afraid of how it smells...because all the pedal has to do it smell my foot and the car stops! :)

Is there such a thing as too much power brakes? I have to get used to this hyper sensitive pedal. I think it may be time to install that cam I have...just to scrub off some of the vacuum boost to make the brakes feel normal again.

I noticed that when I did my booster this spring that the pushrod length has everything to do with pedal feel. The first time I put it all back together, I had adjusted the pushrod too long. The brakes were VERY strong and grabby, but heated up on the highway; they were dragging. So I pulled off the master, and readjusted the pushrod legnth, and they were too loose. Went through this several more times and viola! perfect brakes.

I also noticed that a 1/16" adjustment in Pushrod length equalled about 3/4" of pedal height. As the pedal became higher off the floor, mechanical leverage was increased and braking was easier. After adjustment the new pedal height is about 1/2" higher than it was before and it made it feel like a new brake system was installed.

yeah, a couple months ago I put in an auto zone booster, it was metal too.

Mine came with the rod too far in, so I have been moving it forward, slowly after reading JCAIRE2's post about burning up the rear brakes

I just installed one and I just wonder how much extension you realy have on that screw. I adjusted it out about an eigth but not too much differece. Not sure I want to go too much further with it. I got it from Checker and its round but metal. Box said for Malibu.
