More problems with the 86. It is not turning over when i try to start it. If i go up to it cold....it will start to crank then die. If i continue to try im getting the starter working hard but no engine feedback. Eventually after trying long enough i can get it to start by giving it lots of gas. After i have started it sometimes its fine and very drivable. Sometimes it wont idle and dies as i drive (only happened once coming home from the gas station). I figure i have narrowed it down to a few problems but im no expert by any means and i know you all are. Ive come up with...fuel pump, fuel injectors, spark plugs, starter, and battery. I had the battery "charged" about 2 weeks ago could the dealer have screwed it up when they should have given me a new battery. Any of your thoughts or help is greatly appreciated...i wanna drive without problems again :mad
OH YEAH and sometimes the service engine light is on and sometimes not....it does flash when the car is in the on postition with the engine off. AND as i sit in my car with the key in the on postion engine off the overdrive light and service engine "click" on and off real fast....almost like there is a short. Dont know if related.
No expert here, but sounds like you are on the right track. First find out if you have fuel (fuel pressure gauge) and spark then go from there.
Mine did something similar when I first bought it and it turned out to be a combination of a few things. I have an injector that was leaking real bad as well as a battery that was on the way out. The fuel pump was probably giving up the ghost too since it died about 6 months later.
JMO, sounds like you may have a leaky injector. Try holding the pedal down for 5-10 seconds with the ignition off. See if that helps any. If it does, it is most likely a leaky injector flooding out the engine. Hopefully others will offer some suggestions too.
