Out of the blue the other day the readout for just the water temp is not lit up like the rest of the dash....I tap it and it came back on...but did it again and won;t come back on with a light tap with my finger.....I can see it, but you know how the dashes are lit up...well all else is fine, but that part....
Do I have a short or something, or bulb in there out....I have never removed the dash out of there before...the bezel yeah ,but not the guts.....how hard is that going to be?
Re: LCD dash with Temp readout part. HELP NEEDED (apollo30346)
If you can still see numbers but they aren't backlit it's probably a bulb gone bad. If you've had the bezel off then the digidash isn't any harder. While I've heard of people replacing bulbs from the front of the panel, I've done it by taking it apart. You should probably replace all of the bulbs while you're at it so you don't have to go through this exercise a second time. I believe the correct bulb is #37 and when I looked the only place outside of a dealer to have them was Wal-Mart. Good luck

You have a lamp burned out, or a lamp socket that isn't making contact. You can replace the lamp from the front but it takes some care because the lamps are plugged into a socket that is inserted from the rear of the cluster front circuit board. If you accidently turn the lamp, the socket will drop out and you will have to remove the instrument cluster. It's not that hard to do, and if the lamp you remove checks ok, then the socket isn't making good connection and you will have to remove the instrument cluster. From the front, remove the dash bezel and the perimeter frame of the cluster. The lamps are covered with a bright metal cover which you pull off. Wrap a piece of masking tape around the lamp and use needle nose pliers to remove the lamp. The replacement lamp is an 882 and if you can find some tubing to slip over it, it will be easier to plug back in to the socket. Additional help with the cluster can be found at: http://www.batee.com
