Does anyone know if there is any way to run a double roller timing chain on an LT4 based optispark and timing gear set? It seems as though something could be done with the longer dowel on the end of the cam but ??
Re: Double Roller Timing Chain Possible on LT4 ? (Rex Ruby)
You might want to try the GMPP Extreme Duty Timing Set #12370835 - designed for very high output LT1/LT4 engines. I have one. I don't know of a double roller that fits.

Some people do run a Std double roller chain on the LT series motors. I know they dump the gear drive for the water pump & then run an electric water pump. I don't know what else is involved.

Yup, the standard GenI timing chains don't fit under the GenII (LT1/4/99) timing chain cover, to use a low cost double chain the LT1/4 timing chain cover has to go, the older GenI cover is used, that means no drive shaft for the H2O pump, hence the electric H2O pump requirement.
Sorry to Necro-post but this is my exact issue. I have an LT-4 and I already have the electric water pump so I just need to plug the hole in the cover and get a chain. Can you run an L-98/TPI double roller in the factory LT-4 cover so you can run the Opti? Or just run a standard SBC single roller?
i have heavy valve spring pressures and this works great
If you go this route, dont be one of the camaro ‘dummies’ that tries to reuse the stock water pump drive gear (and then gets mad bc of metal shavings ruining your engine)
you have got to install the special water pump drive gear included in the kit ! Its softness/hardness is correct for the gear set

Im running Mezierre electric, deleting all of that crap. I was told the L-98/TPI single roller would built right in. Sounds like it makes sense?
if you trust electric water pumps and there ability to cool then yes ! (I dont)
I got ther larger HD version, they say it's near 100% reliable. Only problem would be road racing, which im not doing. Mostly just daily drive and occasional drag racing, which is PERFECT. I can leave the water pump and fans running to keep the motor at exactly the temp I want while in the staging lanes.

Ive seen posts where people have made road racing in the electric pump work by using an upgraded radiator!

Interesting, Mezierre said the electric, pumps water at the same amount the mechanical does at 3000 rpms. After that, the mechanical has the advantage.
That's why electrics are so nice for daily drivers and cars that get hot sitting in traffic (or drag racing). At idle, you now get more water flow than the mechanical supplies at freeway rpms.
