Default Magnacharger on an LT1

What is required to get the magancharger to fit on an LT1, in a custom intake manifold the only thing needed?

Jim

 Not sure if a Mag is the best choice for ANY Vette. But that's just my $.02.

Anyway, Don't forget the hood. But I'd be curious about that myself because I know since they went from TPI to miniram in the C4 it cleared up a lot of room under the "cowl."

Other than that, I would check out the C5 kits to get a better idea. I would think the manifold, injector rail, injectors. I don't know if the Mag pulls air from the back of the motor so I don't know about an intercooler.

The only other problem I see is with the belt and how to route with existing pulleys.

Just curious?? why would you want to go to all that work and expense to install something that won't make nearly as much power as a procharger would.

This is more of an exercise than actually doing it. My 383 is being built NA with a little nitrous, and is taking a little longer than expected. It’s making me think too much.

I’m interested in low end torque, with a stock mannered cam for cruising not racing. This seemed like a near ideal solution.

Personally I would be interested in a Magnacharger style blower because it gets to max boost by 3-4K RPM. I don't see 6,000 RPM very often unless I'm racing, which lately hasn't been very often, so with a centrificial style blower I would hardly ever be under boost. That's just me. Max boost by 4K and I would give people fits trying to play catch up.

Actually screw and roots style superchargers are at max boost not too far off of idle... I installed a Whipplecharger on a Tahoe and it was at max boost by 1500 rpm. That's really where a screw/roots shines is that they aren't exponential boost makers like centrifugals are. And don't discount how much power you can make with a positive displacement supercharger; all I have to do is point you to a fuel car... Plus, Magnacharger and Whipple are getting some obscene power numbers out of their screw units on 4.6 Mustanks...As much as most centrifugals without having to buzz them as high and having it right off idle...

The problem with them that I see is TOO much power down low. I'm only running 7lbs of boost and if I'm running any RPM above 2500 through first, I roast my tires. And I haven't even got it tuned yet!

Since you don't see boost until ~3000 RPM w/ a centrifugal, theoretically it would seem easier to launch and stop the tires from spinning with less boost as lower RPM, but then once you get going and you're racing you're always in the 3000+ RPM range which is where you'll stay all the way down the track.

As for using a blower and not racing, I think you have it backwards, there's really no point on the street. Are you going to pass someone on the highway 2000RPM and need all that torque?

I think centrifugal is the way to go with IRS and drag radials or street tires.

I would also like to do a unique project. Turbo seems too difficult right now.

I'm going to look into what's involved, we'll see.

I"LL bet it was running on methanol. I have never seen a roots that made big numbers on gas. Them things are ok for the drag strip on a fuel car because it will cool the charge. ALL of them that I have seen running on the street with gas I would say what they did best was overheat I know they make an intercooler for those style blowers but I have never seen a car with one installed The motor that he decribes would make a good tow truck engine

You may have already read this but here is a guy who put a Eaton on a LT-1 F-body.
