Default Yet another 1.6 Roller Rockers thread

O.k. I searched the archives and found too much and not enough info.

1.) Does anyone have an opinion on which ones are best for LT-1's ??

2.) What is the price range?

3.) Pro's and Con's

Thanks.

I have been running Crane Gold 1.6 RR's for over a year now, with no problems. However, if I had it to do over, I would probably buy the Comp Pro Magnum RR's.

That seems to be what people are saying. Now if I understand it right, all I have to do is file down the drip tabs on my stock covers and plug 'n play right?

What about other details for install, guides, adjustment, etc...?

Lt1's will need new valve springs because they are dangerously close to coil bind with 1.6R's.

I just always thought that the 1.6's were just a simple addon to gain a little more cam from our stock engine's....
Was I wrong......????

I researched this a while ago, and i have decided to go with comp cams pro magnum. They are stronger than crane gold and other aluminum setups, while being lighter. they are around the same price as the crane gold. PS: the LT4 used rockers made by crane.

Well, "simple" is a relative term in this case.

Generally, when doing 1.6RRs, you should also do seals & springs and, of course, check for coil bind. You may also need to shim the springs as you verify installed height to get seat pressure desired. You should also use new machined retainers to avoid a dropped valve.

With iron heads you likely need to have the pushrod slots machined larger to avoid binding with the new geometry as the stock slots act as guides for the pushrods. And, with an '85 or early '86, you may want to use 1.6s on intake & 1.5s on exhaust to avoid rough idle.

So, doing 1.6RRs isn't quite as simple as just installing them and setting the preload.
