No problem, I'm definately not the person to be giving advice on your problem, I know just enough to get me in trouble :D
Your are saying that you have no spark at all? Is there anyway you can have it diagnosed? I'm sure if the opti goes completely out you would get no spark. Did you have any symptoms before the no start? Like the typical opti symptoms are kinda like cutting out, but sometimes only at high rpm's.
I'm probably not going to be able to help, but as for your 2nd question, If it were me I would buy the complete unit if I was going to do anything with opti, for one you don't want to have to go back in there again. Also, I would look into the Dynaspark system if I was going to replace it.
If you are looking to buy a new Opti for your '92 - I got a new AC-Delco unit (complete with cap) from Jason Cromer at Sam Taylor Buick in Florida for $288 DELIVERED for my '92!! Here's the link - check him out!! http://www.samtaylor.com/html/parts.html
