Default Differential capacity.

So I'm looking at my alldata.com account and find the following for capacities of the differential....

Chevette 0.8 Liters 1.7 Pints

Corvette 1.5 Liters 3.2 Pints
Caprice, Monte Carlo, El Camino

8-1/2" ring gear 1.9 Liters 4.3 Pints

Others 1.7 Liters 3.5 Pints

Why can't it just say "Corvette Auto" and "Corvette Manual". Since I've got a manual car the Dana 44 has an 8-1/2" ring gear. Gotta go with that. I'm going to dump some Mobil 1 75W-90 synthetic gear oil in and two bottles of GM limited slip additive to see if this clunk goes away that I just can't believe is the differential. We'll see. :)

Default Re: Differential capacity. (scorp508)

I think mine took more than that, and that was with just "topping" it off.

You fill it till to the fill hole right? That's how every single other differential or anything containing gear oil has been in my experience.

My dad's FJ40 land cruiser took over a gallon, and I think it has a D44 also. (straightaxle, but still... 3.2 pints seems too small for a vette.

EDIT
Hmm.. 4.3, maybe that's closer. BTW, mine started clunking after I added the fluid. I "topped it off" with plain old valvoline gear oil and some (don't tell anyone) lucas goop because it was weeping a little from the gasket. I didn't add the limited slip stuff.
