Average engine rebuild price?
Sorry about the spelling error on the title. I've the 84 crossfire, and there's a marble like sound inside the engine with it running, erratic, like something small came loose. how much would a rebuild cost if there's nothing really wrong with the block. thanks for any advice :seeya :steering:

Well,
I supplied the cam and the new injectors (about $500) and the bill for my rebuild at McJack's Corvette in Santa Ana, CA was $2900. Used the same pistons but two new rods. Standard clean up hone, no over-bore. This includes HD oil pump, HD racing gaskets and a loose hose clamp the mechanic forgot to tighten. "Green shower" under the hood included.
His base price he quoted was $1650 plus parts. Worked out about right.

A friend of mine just paid $1400 for a brand new Crate Engine from
Knippelmier Chevrolet in Blanchard, Ok.

I paid 1600 for mine which included balancing and upgrading of a few pieces (rod bolts, timing chain) The 1600 also included having the stock heads ported. I know the builder, so that helped bring the price down.

Maybe you don't need a rebuild.
When my Cat Converter started going out, I thought it was an engine problem too. It breaks up inside and rattles around like you describe.
Check out the converter. i went to my oil change place and they let me get underneath while the engine was running. I could hear it then.
