Planning to install long tube headers with cats. While reading the current threads about similar installs, heated O2 sensors are sometimes mentioned as necessary for the headers. Why? :steering:
The O2 sensor must get enough heat from the exhaust flow to maintain 300deg C in order to operate.
Sometimes when headers are installed the O2 sensor is placed too far down stream for sufficient heating.
My experience with ceramic coated (inside/out) LT headers is that, with the O2 sensor(s) located in the collector there is sufficient heat for normal operation.
I concur with last post. :iagree: My TPIS coated headers seem to keep my O2 sensor heated and I have set no codes in the two years of operation, although I too have wondered if I should go to the expensive 3 wire setup.
I appreciate the responses. I found an excellent tech tip on the issue as well. Still interested in others' opinions on TPIS headers or Exotic Muscle headers and the need for heated O2 sensors on a 96. :steering:
