Default Code 32 question

After changing exhaust systems I am getting a code 32. Is there any way to just disconnect a wire from the sensor to the ECM or from the ECM to the "service engine soon" light without reprogramming the chip? Just curious, hate to be without a car for a few days.

Aloha,
Larry

Oops, sorry about using the wrong format, not a poll question. :)

Code 32 is ignorable, it wont harm anything, so dont hesitate to drive it. Disconnecting the solenoid/switch from the ECM would throw the code as well, the chip must be reprog to take out the EGR/Code 32, unless you can tell us exactly what you did to the exhaust.

Though I haven't tried it you might try the "diode method" on my site.

You might also try the test method to see if a component in the EGR system is bad.

Vader 86,

I went from stock with Flowmasters to duals, no cats or precats and Flowmasters. Marcho Polo offered to help me out which I really appreciate but I would be without a car to drive during the reprogramming time. Any suggestions?

Aloha,
Larry

Mine did the same thing after changing the exhaust and ignored it for almost a year. Then it failed the emissions test. I took it to the shop to find out why it had failed and guess what it was? The EGR valve. I had it replaced and took it back to be rechecked and it passed. So yes you can ignore it since it doesn't affect how the car runs, but there could very well be something wrong.

So you did hook the EGR system back together? Just deleting the cats usually doesnt throw the code.

But, you can either replace the solenoid/switch (not expensive) if its important to you, or get Craig to delete the Code 32.

:iagree:

The code is set if there isn't enough back pressure, as the EGR opens it looks for the MAP to change under certain conditions, because you've changed the amount of backpressure the EGR no longer changes the MAP sensor for the ECM to see the EGR fired. Code 32 is set. Unless you change every components in the EGR system to make sure you weren't on the edge of failure before you changed the exhaust, you'll just have to have the chip reprogrammed to kill the EGR code..........I've replaced all the EGR components and it still didn't help. Code was removed via chip.......all is good now.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like the chip is the way to go. Craig offered to help me out I just thought maybe there was a way to "fix it" and not be without the car for a while.
