I have developed a noise in the motor. It has been completely rebuilt about 500 miles ago. It sounds more like a tinny sound and not a thud like a rod. It only happens after the car is 150 degrees or hotter. I have checked it from top to bottom and it doesn't seem any worse in any spot. If I had to say one spot it sounds loudest I would have to say on the thermostat housing. Please give me your thoughts on what to look at.
Take the belt(s) off and run it for a minute (not enough to overheat it since there is no water circulating). If the noise goes away then its in the accessories being driven by the belt(s).
Disconect all the electrical connections to the smog junk. Noise go away?
How is the oil pressure and water temp after running it for a while?
You can always get one of those 'engine ear' electronic snoopers for $50 or so. The problem with one of them is then you really hear all the racket the engine makes.
I took the belt off as it looked like the noise was in time with the tensioner, but the noise was still there. You mentioned smog junk. There is a thing by the A/C pump to the right as your facing the motor. It has a vacume line electrical conector and a big line from the smog pump. The noise is really noticeable on it. What's this thing do? I do have a stethiscope I have been using. I didn't mention it before but it's an 85 car.
