Help!! Overheating!
Got a 94 LT1 that has been overheating. Used to get hot at idle (about 235-240), but cool down (about 195) while driving at speed. Yesterday, the temp started to rise even cruising at 85 mph, til it reached 240 while cruising! Fans were both operating, still didn't cool down, so headed straight home. Have recently replaced the thermo, going with 180 deg. No coolant leaks, and no noises from the water pump, so I don't think that is my problem. Going to fluch and fill coolant system and clean off front of radiator in next couple days, hoping that fixes it. Anybody got any ideas in case it doesn't? I'm supposed to take it on a 650 mile trip next weekend, but am afraid to unless I get this problem fixed.

Here're some ideas:
1. Make sure the thermostat is positioned correctly. In my '86, the flow is up, thus the thermo pintle points down. I believe the the LT1s are of the reverse flow design?
2. Check to see if the air dam is missing or damaged. Missing/broken air dam caused overheating in my friend's Trans Am and my other friend's '92 'vette.
Make sure you use at least a 50/50 mix and also bleed the system. You should have two bleeder screws if you didn't do the TB bypass. Mine was running about 200 on the highway. That was Friday which was pretty hot and humid. Where is Valley Lee?

First, Thanks, everybody, for your help!
Sumoboy, Valley Lee is all the way dow by Point Lookout way down in Southern Maryland.
You need to clean the debris out of the radiator by removing the top cover holding the radiator and a/c condenser. C4's suck up all kinds of junk between the a/c condenser and the radiator. You can prove this by blasting water from a garden hose backwards through the radiator (keep water off your optispark) and then blasting water around the radiator cap gap to flush the debris out. If your temps reduce, then do a complete job by removing the top cover.
