on my way home from work last night all of a sudden it dropped down to 500 rpm and started surging blowing black smoke,as i got back on the throttle it acted like tps wasnt even working till i got to half throttle at least.I made it home took a 1/4 tank of gas to get 15 miles, put the scanner on it and it was reading 5 volts at idle,i disconnected it and checked voltage to grey wire 5 volts ,black ground and blue im not sure i forget now, well when i plug it back in i get 4.98-5.00 on the blue and grey.If i disconnect it the scanner will read.004 like normal but it will idle at least and idle higher then normal.I think the tps is shot but now wondering if wiring trouble,im going back outside to check blue again while disconnected. This week i checked it and it was fine .62 at idle and 4.25 wot.
ok i can test it off the black and blue with my meter and it reads .004 disconected and the grey is reading 5 volts untill i plug it back in then it goes to 4.98 on the blue.Ill go out and check the black again.
Re: tps problems reading 5 volts at idle (patsnitrovette)
The ground wire should always read 0 volts. Any voltage read on the ground wire indicates it is open circuit. When the ground wire opens, the ECM gets 5 volts all the time.
