Default Horsepower from acceleration

Is this a good calculation for determining horsepower from acceleration, or is there a better way?

Horsepower = .0000263 * weight * acceleration * speed
when the weight is in pounds, acceleration is in mph/sec, and speed is in mph.

What are you using for acceleration per second? Where do you get mph/sec.? I am not following. That would be miles per hour per second?

I have seen calculations that if you know the weight and your 1/4 mile trap speed, you can calculate your RWHP.

The acceleration measurement would come from an accelerometer. :cool:

Might as well make it miles per 3600 seconds per second (or miles per second squared) to make the units carry- and that would be the simplified version of acceleration. The rest should be converting units and getting accurate readings....

:cool:

I need to borrow one of those accelerometers... :D Can we rent those from somewhere?
