Question for all those members out there who have had work done at a shop for one thing or another. Short story, local tranny shop several repairs to no avail, find LevelTen take it to them last year, paid over 4k for complete rebuild of what they said called a "bulletproof" tranny. Drive the car 6 months park it for 5 take it back out drive for 3 months and I destroy the "bulletproof" tranny. Take it back, takes them 2 weeks to redo again, talk to Sam on Thurs. said it would be $800, I said fine will p-up Saturday, he replies ok. I drive down Sat. am to p-up (3-1/2 hr drive one way) and they decide to close the shop that day and not call me. Finally gentlemen next door tracks the owner,Pat down and Pat instructs him to process bill for me and give me my keys (1 1/2 hours extra) + my bill is 1000, not 800. Being that the guy nextdoor didn't work there but was able to process all for me, I was going to ask him to eat the 200. So, then after about 10 phonecalls, 1 a day and 7 emails I finally get a reply that the 1000 has to stay and I would get free service for 2 years, I reply that I am selling the car and that is of no help to me, Sorry, can't help you!!! Am I wrong for being upset??? :mad , or should I just be happy that the car is back together for now???? Sorry, but I am in busy also and I don't think it should take that many phonecalls or emails to get a reply that doesn't even satisfy the client. Please read and give me some feed back. Remember the name of that Transmission shop and be sure to avoid, overpriced for what they called "bulletproof" that I broke with a mere 11k miles on.
I have heard of the shop you speak of. They are sponsors at Raceway Park. Luckily for me, I know two very good trans guys and I have no need to go anywhere else.
You might want to post this over in the Northeast section also.
What would be the names of these guys, I may be in need of someone else if I don't sell the car, I assume you would recommend? I can't say anything good about my dealings with LevelTen anymore. They said it would cost a bit more than normal but no matter how I drove the car the tranny would with stand it and for the 4K+ the first time I thought it would, but I was wrong. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.!!
i also went to level ten to get a stall converter pat had told me i would gain atleast half a second in the 1/4 with his converter so i bought it then i decided to go all out the hole thing i got the bulletproff tranny and billet servos so it shifts hard the hole works 500miles later i go to the track and run a 10 slower 5 times in a row call him up tell him about it and i said seems like i have a little vibration so he says bring it in he takes it for a ride says everything is fine the vibration is from your exhaust bring it back on wensday i will take care of it well 2 days later trans crapped on rt.280 doing 65mph lost all gears just fell apart so 4 hours later a tow truck showed up towed it to his place and they fixed it he said a shoe broke and then they said well mabey the shoe was dragging and causeing my times to not go down so another 500miles later i go the track it runs the same a tenth slower then it was with the stock trans and converter so i call him and i cant get pat on the phone no more but now i talk to sam he says i dont want to sound like a salesman but you really need our 800.00 billet converter if you want to see any gains in your times i almost sh#t so then pat told sam something is wrong with my car that is why it is runnning slower so thats what i can say about level ten pat is not a man of his words i see it as just under 3000 down the drain
Boy, I wish I talked to you before I brought my car there. I spent just over 4K the first time along with the $800 TC and my times too slowed. Problem I had they said the way it was supposed to be was that if I floored the gas to the floor it wouldn't upshift, didn't have that problem before they worked on it. So track times slowed for me, I had to floor it to take off then let up part way through to get the tranny to shift. Again, mine left me hanging on the thruway, unfortunately for me I also had to tow it 3 1/2 hours down form the Albany area to get it to them, same thing as you lost all my gears :mad . Lesson learned, maybe others will read and learn from our misadventures and steer clear from that place. Not to mention that I ran into another person down there on that Saturday who said that their top mechanic left a few years ago and opened his own shop a few miles down the road, due to conflicts with the others, mainly price gouging and poor warranty, said bulletproof, but was only a word, not real.
I had Level 10 install a PTS-3 A4 in my IROC a few years ago for around $2,100 and it still realy chirps the tires on the 1-2 shift thought the 2,400rpm TC is now a 3,000rpm TC.
I had the Vette A4 rebuilt with a shift kit & 2,000rpm TC by Grant Transmissions in CT for about $1,425 and the Vette picked up a few 10s from the work.
If you have questions on how your A4 should behave or need a little work done on it give Grant a call (phone number on my site).
From my experience with them I only can agree and unfortunately I alsways find out a day late. Be careful when speaking with them, I believe Sam is pretty much just sales, knows about his transmissions but will say anything to the consumer to get the sale. Someone ought to call them up and ask them to update their website and call their trannies "somewhat Bulletproof", because that "bulletproof" surely is not fitting them.
