AFR (the head manufacturer) makes a HydraRev kit that places extra downforce on the hydraulic lifter body (since high spring pressures would just collapse the hydraulic lifter). http://www.airflowresearch.com/pages/hydra_rev.htm
This all sounds like a great idea on paper if you want to try to rev to 6500+ but does anyone have experience with one? Looking for dis/recommenations!
Re: Hydra-rev kits -- anyone using one? (DAVE396LT1)
You should do a search this has come up several times in the past 6 months. However some who posted about them had no idea how they worked that was obvious from their post. I have had them in my current engine for the past four years. When I build another engine they will be in it also. :yesnod:
I use one on my car. My stock bottom end LT1 pulls to 7,200 RPM, the PCM cut off, with no issues.
The main advantage I have found with the hydra rev kit is keeping power after your power peak. My car makes peak power at 6,600 RPM, but at 7,200 RPM I am only down 5 RWHP. Without the hydra rev I am sure I would be down at least 15-20 RWHP at 7,200 RPM. Very trick piece, no need to worry about valve float with one.
I'm using AFR's #8015 springs which are 145lbs seat, 355 open. I don't think you can run much more spring pressure than that without collapsing the hydraulic lifters.
No there are no drawbacks to using this kit, well expect maybe a little more noise from the valvetrain.
The only other drawbacks I can think of might be a couple of extra pounds, about $200 less dollars, and the PITA to install. Beware of flying springs!!!
If someone what to see/post pics, I have some before/during/after the install.

I'm running stock lifters, the Rev Kit, and CompCams #985-16 springs, 140lbs seat, 340 open. I don't think valve float is going problem, but we'll see at the dyno next week..

LT4POWER
PITA is mild. I have been trying to install for the last 2 nites.
Did you buy the AFR install tool?
Any install tips from anybody would be appreciate!
Get the install tool and some eye protection. Set valve lash according to the instructions. I installed it with the heads already on, but I've read where you can do it a different way. Compress the springs at the second to the last coil. Good Luck
