Question regarding cornering lights functionality in 96 coupe
The dealer had the steering column in my 96 coupe apart and I''m wondering if something got screwed up with the cornering lights (the long white lights on both front sides). I could swear that prior to taking the car in, when the light switch was in the "parking" position, that is the position on the light switch a half turn to the right (full turn to the right and the headlamps come up and on), those white lights would come on. Now, the only time they go on is if either the left or right turn signal indicator is in use and they're solid on. Also aren't the rear red sidelights supposed to flash when the turn signal is activated (the front side amber lights do)? The only time the rear red side lights come on is if the light switch is in the "parking" position and they're solid on as well. The factory manual repeatedly references the turn/hazard switch assembly in the troubleshooting flow charts and I'm wondering if the those guys messed it up somehow when they put it back together. Anyone got an opinion on this?
THanks

Sounds to me like all is working properly.
The front cornering lights only come on with the turn signals; solid on while the signal is engaged, they do not flash. The rear side marker lights do not flash.

What about if the hazard lights button is engaged? Are those white cornering lights supposed to be flashing then?

No, they are for illuminating the corner you are going around. The red side-marker lights in the back will be solid on with the parking ligts on. The white side-lights lite up when you put it in reverse.

So what you're saying is that the ONLY time those front cornering lights should be on is with the light switch in the "parking lights" or headlamps on position AND the turn signal indictor activated, correct? Thanks for checking, I must be losing it. All those years of clean living, coming back to haunt me...
Re: Question regarding cornering lights functionality in 96 coupe (tobijohn)
I believe the front cornering lights should come on with the turn signal, regardless of whether the parking/headlights are engaged. Now I'm going to have to go check, lol. Mine is an '88 so it might be different.

:iagree:
The white corner lights come on solid whenever the turn signals are active. Parking/headlights on or off.
Re: Question regarding cornering lights functionality in 96 coupe (R94 LT 1)
Just checked the '95 and '96. The front cornering lights only come on when the turn signals are activated while either the Parking Lights or the Headlights are on. Conversely, the front cornering lights do not come on if the Parking Lights or the Headlights are not on. This was observed on both cars.

Well I stand corrected. I just went out and check mine on the '94 and they work just like stated above. Here I thought I had seen them on with the lights off as well.

Checking back in, a little late, lol. Got distracted, and went for a ride. The front cornering lights on mine only work when the park/headlights are on.

No, I guess not. Of course, it took almost three weeks and calls to the corporate office and regional general manager to finally get the car back... :banghead:
