hey guys, I just got my C4 and if you ask me its running hot. The needle on the temp gage is usually slightly more than half way, however at times it increases substantially to almost 260. However i have noticed that the needle on the oil psi gague fluxuates quite a bit so i dont know if its a problem with the needles or if it actually is running hot. when i turn on the heater the air isn't super hot unless i pump up the temperature to 90. What do you guys think?
You really need to remove the aircleaner and radiator shroud to make sure the radiator is not blocked. As Andy says, the design allows for almost anything to get sucked up there. If your car has a lot of miles, you can bet it's dirty. Check your antifreeze level too (I know, sounds pretty basic). There are three steps for keeping these things cool: Clean radiator, 160 thermostat, and fans. I've done the first two and I rarely hit 200 - in Alabama. Good luck.
Sounds like you have an air bubble in the system. C4's are bad about that anytime the cooling system is gotten into.
To be sure, take out the thermo and top off the radiator. If you problem is solved, that's the prob. Leave the thermo out or drill a small hole in the non-moving part of the thermo and reinstall.
Yeah, hate those needles. Give me the digits any day.

First of all the analog gauge is not linear. Enter into diagnostic mode on the AC..... hold the up and down fan buttons at the same time till 00 shows up, scroll to 16 using either fan speed button, then hit the auto fan speed button. That will bring up the temp in Centigrade..... 110+ is close to 230 F
With that said, check to make sure both fans are operational, if the secondary fan is not comming on, that could be the cause of the excess heat. Then go ahead and clean the radiator of debris. Take it to a car wash place and use a high pressure spray to help get the grime out.
Or just forget about it and get a Ron Davis radiator and never worry about temps again.

Some C4's don't have a digital temp reading :( I know this is the case with model yr 91. I can't imagine not having that kind of accuracy, personally.
They all do.......

That sounds rather inconvenient to go into diagnostic mode while you're cruising at 75mph on the freeway ... too bad they can't show that info along with the speedo/fuel level/etc. on the '91 cars.

How is it inconvenient? Especially if you've never done it?

Well, glancing at the dashboard at eye level to see engine temp vs. pushing a series of buttons down behind the shifter to reveal engine temp. I reiterate my point: It's inconvenient at highway speeds :yesnod:
also, i just went outside and turned on my vette, left it in park and popped the hood to check the fans. NEITHER were on, could this be the problem? or do they not come on until a certain temperature is reached?

Your fans could be the problem, I am having the same problem with my car overheating. My fans do not come on unless I turn the AC or heater on, then only the passenger one comes on. I checked my fuses and they seemed fine, I replaced my relays, still didnt work. Now I found out my driverside fan was blown out and won't budge. I got a new fan and motor in there now, but I still don't see it coming on. Im still trying to figure out my problem, I guess I have to take the test light back out again and check for power. Hopefuly tommorrow I'l get it back on the lift and figure this one out, if you have any questions I'll try the best I can to help since im in the same boat you are. Good luck!
BTW- your fans do turn on at a certain temp. You have to wait until the car heats up.

Am I missing something here?
Amazing, I had time to do it at the track this weekend while running...... I guess you don't know your car well enough to do certain functions without looking, and it's not behind the shifter, that's where the radio is.
