Today I went in search of an irritating rattle at the front of my car over 'surface imperfections'. I jacked the car and went to town with the BFH expecting to find worn bushings or ball joints or some such. Turns out, several of the clearances on my caliper have opened up. The pin is shrinking as are the pads everywhere they contact anything else.
The short-term solution was to open up the springs, but I'm wondering if anybody knows of a way to locate the caliper more positively to reduce this kind of wear, or a reasonably inexpensive replacement that eliminates this crap altogether.
I've seen full-floating styles for other cars, four piston even, that aren't some kind of bad barroom puzzle to reassemble, in fact you don't even have to remove the caliper to change pads. Pull two pins and they pop out a slot like toast.

Re: Front caliper rattle (C4kid94)
my front right brake does the same thing, the pad rattles around in the calpier. Ive been told all I need is a new clip that holds the brake pad in
 Yes the springs are supposed to hold the pads tightly in the calipers (very doubtfull calipers are rattling) Howvere some after market pads are thinner than original equipment ( saving a little cost here and there).
Opening up the springs (anti rattle clips) should help.
Retorque caliper bracket bolts, check guide pins, but likely it may be that after market pads are just a little too thin. I recently found a set that provided a fairly thick plastic shim...I guess plastic is cheaper than pad material
