I have a 1996 corvette with 91k miles. My oil pressure very low at idle and goes up tp 15 psi at 40 mph. I replaced the oil sender and still no oil pressure at idle. How can I check to see if I have oil pressure and I heard that if the oil pressure goes below 5 psi the fuel pump will shut off.
If youve already replaced the sender, and it aint fixed, replace the pump.
I just had the same thing go wrong with mine, pump fixed it.
But they do make a gauge to measure oil pressure, I just dont know how to use it/hook it up. Its something that mates with the filter assembly, but i dont know any more about it.
Please don't take offence; did you replace the right sending unit? There are two oil pressure sending units: the smaller one is the one which sends pressure info to the CCM (as you said, shuts off the fuel pump in case of loss of oil pressure) and the larger one "feeds" the gauge.
To check pressure, thread a (cheap) oil pressure gauge (like from NAPA or Autozone) into the "gauge" sending unit inlet. Don't use the smaller sending unit inlet -- removing the sending unit will obviously not allow the engine to run.
