this weekend im going to takle a few minor projects on my 89'. one of these is removing the entire AIR setup. the only question i have is what to do with the tubes coming out of the stock exhaust headers. did you guys leave them there and cap them off... or should i hacksaw them off and JB weld the openings shut? any suggestions?
plug them. I used some appropriately sized rubber hose and plugge it, then put a hose clamp around the end of the hose (with the plug in it) to seal it up. It looks fairly neat, is almost not noticable and retains the stock AIR tubes should you decide to sell the car or hook everything back up.
Anything will work for a plug, I actually used a wooden dowel cut down to about 1" long and covered it in RTV sealant... but a metal plug would probably be better just because it's hot exhaust. (granted, there's not much oxygen to burn in exhaust and the OEM rubber hose isn't what I would call fireproof anyway- but I know some people will claim it's a hazzard so that's my disclaimer).
