I know I saw a recent post where someone mentioned how to raise the shift points. Can someone please enlighten me. I want to raise mine and I can't find the post.
They say the mind is the first to go. Damn!
Thanks for your help!
John
Make sure your TV cable is properly adjusted. That might be all you need. :seeya
:iagree: The only way to change the shift points on a 700R4 (besides the TV adjustment) is to pop that governor cover off and install some new springs, etc.
I know people will jump all over me for this unorthodox method, but I've been driving my vette's 700r4 (original) for the past 3+ years with the TV cable adjusted about 1/4"farther towards the back of the car. What this did is a HECK of a lot faster and snappier shifts than when the cable is adjusted the 'GM' way, and it holds gear about 500rpms higher..
They say if you misadjust your TV cable you are making your transmission wear out faster, but after 3+ years of use and who knows how many miles, mine is still good.. It is starting to go I think (no slippage yet though), but considering the car has 107K miles, and 65K of which are hard driven by me, I go tmy money's worth.. Wish that rebuilt transmissions could have the track-record that the freakin stock GM trannies have from factory.
B&M makes a governor recalibration kit for our A4; it sells for about $35.
It comes with sesveral of the smaller weithts and a set of springs. Contact Summit Racing.
My 87 runs out of breath soooo bad...When I'm at the track and at WOT around 5k or so the car moves but raising the shift points almost seems like it would make my car stay in that lack of power area even longer...What am I missing here guys??
Thanks for the replies. I have shortened the runner length by about four inches. According to the dyno my peak h.p. is around 5200 rpm now. Stock was 4600. My trans shifts out of 1st at 4600rpm and 2nd at 4800rpm. Way below my peak h.p.. The car is faster (e.t.) if I shift it manually around 5400 rpm. I know the trans will shift faster into the next gear by itself than with me doing it manually so my thought is to raise the wot shift points to around 5400 rpm or so and keep it in drive. Thats the goal anyway.
I have played with the T.V. cable settings but the numbers mentioned are as high as I can get.
Sounds like I need to get a govener recalibration kit.
Thanks!
John

Moving it towards the firewall will INCREASE line pressure. It's when it's adjusted the other way that you will ruin the tranny, by decreasing line pressure and clutch application.
