I think that the sensor that tells my cooling fans to come on is broken, but i dont know where it is becuase i didn't get an owners manuel with my car. (figures the only car i would use one for is the one I didn't get one for.) Can someone tell me where to find this?
That is a good resource, as far as it goes. It seems to deal with engine control sensors, only. No fan switch info, even tough it doesn't address any MAP sensors. On my '84, the fan switch is on the right side of the engine, in the head, between cyls #6 & 8. If your car is an '85 (from sig?) my parts book shows yours to be in the corrisponding head opening on the left side. That puts it between cyls #1 & 3. Good luck, and...
RACE ON!!!
[Edit] Although I had the correct sides, I had the wrong cylinder numbers.
One small suggestion: Buy yourself a Helms Service Manual from your local Chevy place or (cheaper) from E-Bay. It makes things so much easier to understand and fix. A must for the serious Corvette owner.
Oh, one more thing, on your 95 the ECM or PCM controls the cooling fans. The sensors are in one of two places, between #5 and #7 and/or on the front of the coolant pump. The factory setting on your 95 is too high and you should have the ECM reprogramed to a lower setting.
well I'm not sure about an 85, but on a 88 I've been all over/under this car this past week. The small aux. fan is controled by the AC line pressure switch and the temp sensor in the drivers side of the engine. plus the main fan is controled by the ecm, it should come on around 226 or about. their are relays on each fan one on the fender well by the battery, the other on the drivers side fan shroud. My main fan motor had shorted out causing a number of problems/errors/and general screw ups by my self. some one in the past had messed with my fan wireing, SO don't take this as gospel, your car could be different.
good luck........
