I assume you are talking about roller rockers. If so, take a dremel tool with a cutting wheel and cut the drip tangs off. If they are stock stamped OEM rocker arms, there shouldn't be a problem.
pulled the covers off.. no signs of obvious damage... maybe on the very edge of the drip tab maybe the last 1/32" or so there is some scuff marks... but nothing big.. i also ran the motor with the covers off and noticed no change in noise.. also all the rockers see to be getting good action.. and when they are in the unloaded postition i can move the pushrods with my fingers.. but notice some resistance..
If you're running with the covers off, that is the perfect time to adjust the valves. Loosen the adjuster until clacking starts and slowly tighten until it stops, then turn 1/2 more. This way is better than trying to "feel" the pushrod resistance to turn. What kind of valve springs are you using? If they are OEM they might be binding. Go to the LT-4 springs.
