alternator grinding?

alternator grinding?
i was driving home yesterday night, and my car started to make this awful grinding sound. it was coming from the belt area, and after closer look, the alternator. there was a bunch of rust colored powder around the area. are there bearings in the alternator from the fan part to the rest of it that could have worn out? the alternator was just replaced exactly a year ago. any thoughts, opinions, ideas?

alt is toast.
get a new one. It may even be under warrantee.
if you want to confirm 100%, take a screwdriver, and whilst the car is running, place the tip on the altenator. Put your ear to the handle and listen... if you hear noise, its the alt... move the screwdriver to other items and see how they sound.
