Default Factory alarm deactivation on an '85

How do I permanently deactivate the factory alarm. It seems to have a mind of its own lately and I plan to add an aftermarket alarm that will also control the power locks. Thanks

The Theft Deterent Module (TDM) is located on the passenger side above the kick panel. It's hard to get at but has a connector you can disconnect.

Thanks. What does the module look like? Black plastic box? Any chance anybody has a picture?

Did they move it after '84? For '84 it is behind the center information cluster(security, door ajar, etc.) next to the horn relay. There is also a 10 amp fuse back there going to the module.

I could be mistaken but I think it is either a black plastic box or a grey metal one. It is bolted to the dash supports right behind the breadbox (the passanger side "Corvette" dash pad).

Anybody else? Kick panel or behind the breadbox? I actually removed the pad a few months ago. Wish I remembered what was behind it. I'm still in Kuwait so I won't be able to do the work for a few months. Got plenty of time to hear from everybody. Thanks!

Thanks. One more question can I just disconnect it? Does it control anything else besides the damn alarm?

Usually the problem with the alarm is the door lock switches.

the silver box you refer too behind the bread box is the burn off module, used only on an 85, you need this.

Well, I checked in the shop manual and it is behind the breadbox. It doesn't say if it is black or silver though. I don't know about just disconnecting it as there are other things that have to hook up to it that control other things (ie, the box for controlling the locks is in the console). I am sure someone will chime in that has done this before.

I need the same info. I have to be carefull not to use my electric door locks so the alarm doesn't go off when I unlock the door with the key. I agree that it is probably the door locks that are the problem, but I would just as soon disable the system.

So if it is not the silver box (burn off module), which one is it? Has anybody done this?
