This may be a re-hash of old stuff but out of interest, I've recently, out of necessity, made a metal mount out of steel as the originals in all models I'm told, are PLASTIC (And mine broke!!) 1 off patent pending?? I don't think so!
I also raised the pedal height whilst I was there, by placing spacers (in this case a few old nuts - as in bolts & nuts, not walnuts!!) under the pedal mount. This raised the pedal commensurately.
I would have ideally liked to use ball bearings at the pivot point, but that might just be the elaborate side of me coming out!
I ground off the rivet and replaced it with a 25mm metric bolt and locknut.
In between the pedal arm and the fulcrum I used new washers as shims and did the same on the outer part of the arm. A bit of grease and works really well.
Hope this helps if yours breaks.
Picture below (hopefully)
Interesting, Mine (85) just broke and I contacted my local dealer and vette2vette about replacement. To have a spare I ordered both. The new one was all PLASTIC and I received it first. The used one has metal braces and is actually engineered stronger. Perhaps the later models are reengineered to be stronger?
In fact, in 94 or 95 GM redesigned the gas pedal and added a steel gusset. Looks stronger but it really isn't. I've broken them both. :mad :mad :mad
Typical GM, put a 2 cent gas pedal in a $35000 car. I'm going to have to check out a C5 gas pedal just out of curiosity.
Another stroke of brillance to make sure you buy genuine GM replacement parts.
All things aside driven the Porsche, Ferrari, Jag and Benz, BUT NOTHING COMPARES TO TURNING THE KEY IN THE VETTE AND THOSE PONIES UNDER THE HOOD RUMBLE TO LIFE. LONG LIVE THE AMERICAN ICON!

I have a good friend who races a C5 in the Speed Vision Series. His street car is a Viper GTS with a modified engine ( 500+HP) and suspension. Quiet, comfortable but when floored all hell breaks loose. It reminds me of my Chrysler hemi days. Your nailed back in the seat like a catapult launch all the way to 160mph. The only reason GM is successfull with the C5 is because it's $25,000 cheaper than a Viper. At the same price I'd take a Viper GTS anyday. :seeya :seeya
For what it's worth, I posted a tread a couple of weeks ago on this subject.
I have designed a replacement mount and I am currently having 75 pieces CNC machined out of 6061-T6511 aluminun. As the mounts also acts as a stop for the pedal I retained all original dimensions on the upper half of the mount. The kit will include a new pin and nylon washers to reduce drag between the pedal and the mount.
I don't know what the new replacement from GM costs but these will be $50.00 each plus $6.00 shipping.
I will make another posting when I am ready to ship.
If you are interested in one of these mounts please e-mail me at the following address:

BTW, I am not a business, I designed the mount after I broke one in a race. By selling at this price I will almost recover the cost of the design and CADAM drawing.
