Default Performance Parts- Where to Start?

I recently bought a 1987 Corvette Coupe with an L98 engine. The car can move as we all know but I want it to be a real street machine, loud, fast etc. Unfourtunatley I have no idea where to start in the performance area. Let's say I have about 2-3 grand just for the engine+exhaust. Maybe I could have some suggestions on what parts and where to find them? Thank you.

Great link that will keep him busy for months :D

In all seriousness, thats the best info you need right now. There's a TON of things you can do, but do nothing first without deciding what you want out of the car and good planning on how to get there.

I'd get all the performance catalogs I could. Like Summit and JEGs.
Also just read what the other folks have done to there vettes on the forum.
Take your time and make wise decisions. Get some of the vette mags also.
Also check out the advertisers on the forum.
Read, read, read, and then re-read.
Good Luck

Start with exhaust work, you can get any of the catbacks from Ecklers, MidAmerica, etc. Then try some Hooker longtube headers from Summit Racing or Jegs.

Then you might want to port the plenum/runners with a dremel.
K&N filter and remove the screens from the MAF sensor.

After that youll have to decide how much power you really want, cuz it gets expensive from here on.

Do a search for forum member 65Z01

I believe he has this documented on his website. Along witth some other free mods.

Do exhaust and intake. Port the plenum, put some fatter runner tubes on there, and you'd still have enough left for a cam and maybe some head porting.

Also think about doing gears. If you're not concerned about driveability on the freeway, then gears would be a great starting point. If you have an auto, you'll need a new TC too.
