rebuilding my engine...question about the rings
i found this kind of interesting. started rebuilding my motor this weekend, and found out that the pistons take shallow oil rings. is this factory? i thought they were just on mid 80's to 90-something trucks and mainly 305's?
i bought a standard set of rings before i even had the pistons out, so i had no idea. oh well back to the parts store :crazy:

Yep! GM made the change in the late '80's, early '90's. In later years watch for metric ring groove WIDTHS, besides the shallow depth oil rings. Chevy has brought an end to the "universal" sbc. It stared in 1980, with the right side dipstick, and has snowballed ever since then. Good luck, and...
