Serious battery issues!
How does backfiring & poor acceleration relate to this problem???
Since you bought a multimeter, try using it on the volts scale to check your voltage at the battery.
First look at voltage with car just sitting there with everything off.
Second look at voltage while trying to start car ( will probably take 2 people)
Third Watch voltage to see if it is really going down while car turned off and then while idling. Do readings at battery agree with dash meter???
Actually maybe some one who knows can reinforce this thought, BUT if the battery is good out of car AND the alternator is good out of the car, then it most likely is something else which I would guess is interconnection wiring. Question is can't alternators be tested in the car with car running & if so will this check the interconnections???
