For some reason the left rear wheel on my Vette sticks out about an inch more than the right side. It doesnt matter which wheels are bolted up. Anybody have any clues? I dont believe this car has been in an accident but who knows...
Mine does the same thing. But I spun the car out at about 65-70 and hit a curb with the drivers side rear. I replaces the driver side rim, shock, spindle and the 2 bars that mount to the front of the wheel well and the bar that goes from the spindle to the diff. when I put it back together I noticed the same thing you are all describing. I don't know if it was like that before or not. I have been trying to figure out what the problem is but I can't find anything that looks off. If anyone has any thought I'm all ears. :lurk:
I measured it by eyeballing it but its plain as day to me. Its the rear driver side. I've had the car from the original owner for 2 years in december. When I had my exhaust done I asked my friend that worked there to inspect the car and see if he could figure out what was up (he used to work at a collision body shop). He told me there was no damage visible or work done to the body; he stated that some cars had this "problem" from the factory and it should be of no concern  nobody ever takes notice besides myself. I just dont understand how this type of deviance wouldnt be noticed at the factory???...Thanks for the responses
The wheel spacing is determined by the location of the carrier, so if you look under your car and the carrier mounting points do not look like they have moved, it is not possible that you have a suspension problem (unless someone made a custom 1" shorter driveshaft on one side)
It could be that you have a vette with the 8.5"Front/9.5" Rear wheel combination and have a front wheel fitted on the R/H rear side of the car, or, its most probably the rear camber setting thats slipped leaning the top of the wheel out on the left rear. (or leaning the R/H wheel in ). If thats the problem, it can be easily reset by an alignment shop. You can perform a rough check using a spirit level held vertically on the wheels. :steering:
The left wheel on my 85 sticks out also. Mine had been in a slight accident . I finally found a wheel and tire combination that did not stick out as much (Firestone Firehawk) and I put a half inch spacer on the other side to kinda even things up. I wish the car had been made a little more carefully though! Joe :chevy :chevy
mine is like that too...the left is about 1/2" further out. I was told by a friend who sold these cars at our local chevy dealer that this is completely normal. He also said something about how when installing a lowering kit in the rear, one side may actually need to be adjusted differently than the other to make the car level side to side. Something about the body not sitting perfectly straight over the frame.
