went to put up my top last night and upon raising it on my 89 i find that the plastic rear window has a split in it from left to right.... so the million dollar question is ......can you get a new plastic window put in or is the whole top screwed... the rest of the top is decent ...if top replacement is required ..any tricks or suggestions on what i can do without it looking like poopie to get me through the season...
thanks chuck

Re: convertible owners ever have this happen??? (1989redvette)
I got mine done in 1 day at a local auto upholstery shop. It was quite expensive (as I remember $300) because they have to remove the top from the frame. It is still a lot cheaper than getting a new top installed. I suspect there are cheaper shops that can do the job.

cool...thats is what i wanted to hear ya 300 hundred sounds a bit pricey but it is sure better than having to replace the top......i'll do some checking around
thanks

I went and ordered an new top with a glass window and the retro fit kit when that happened to me. Have not had it installed yet, but when i checked it was like 300 just for the new plastic window and for 450 i got a whole new top. The retro fit kit is crazy priced but I purchased it anyway.

i've thought about upgrading to a glass window but not sure if i want to put the funds into the car at this point...just got it back from the body shop and doing a update to 91-96 styling... has any one updated theres to a glass window and how much did it cost total??

fyi-I turned in my convert top to my insurance company for the same problem and they replaced it, just like rock chips/cracks in a front window. Just had to pay deductible. Good luck

Rich - same story here. Bought a new top w/ glass window, retro kit, weatherstripping, but haven't installed it yet. Waiting for the off-season. Don't want any downtime during prime Corvette weather. I got my top from AA Best. Where did you get yours?
