I am about to purchase a new exhaust system for my car - 1994 LT1 automatic convertible. I would like some expert advice before I make my final decesion. I will only be adding a catback system, no headers etc. My car is not a daily driver, in fact if I can't take the top down, it doesn't go out. What I want is the deep rumble of a muscle car and I don't mind some noise. However, I have seen some posts on this site that talk about teeth rattling resonance which scares me. I love the way the B&B and Corsa systems look but their tones have a bit of a crackle to them. Help, thanks.
Just went on a search for sound clips of flowmaster, B&B, corsa. I definitely prefer the sound of the flowmaster. Are these sound clips fairly representative of the actual sound?
I had ear piercing resonance with Flowmasters in my 93 coupe, but maybe in a vert with the top down, it wouldn't be bad. The tone was great. :seeya
A friend has an '88 with Borlas on it and it RUMBLES ! But he also has a 383 stroker and no cats. I prefer the Borla sound over my Flowmasters cause they're to quiet for me. If I had to do it again I'd get rid of the resonater, replace it with an X pipe, (Dr. Gas) and use Borla mufflers.
I'm running flowmaster's on my 78 which has a wonderful old hotrod type throaty sound. My 84 has a borla system which I must say has got to go. It is very quite and two of the 4 tail pipes are just cosmetic and do not function. My friend has a 2003 with a Corsa system. It has a very unique sound. I must Say I'm impressed it is quite under normal running and idle but down right screams obnoxiously when he gets into it.
I'm running Flomasters, a high flow main cat and no precats and I like the sound. Nice rumble at idle and pretty aggressive at WOT. With any system you put on the car, make sure the tips extend beyond the rear bumper. If they don't, it will resonate.
I think a great deal of the resonance issues are seen on coupes. I know the resonance on mine drops significantly if I have my removable top in the storage position. Since the convertible has some 'sound baffling' (the top when its retracted), I doubt you have much resonance.
Since you're just about to buy your vette, I would assume you'll be keeping her for some time. No disrespect to flowmaster owners, but I would suggest that whatever system you get that it be stainless steel. Much better appearance and last much longer :seeya
i get great sound running dynomax mufflers but the resonance is sometimes deafening--- i have not yet tried running with the under the back hatch---i will give it a run tomorrow and check it out

Best sound=Flowmaster
Loudest=B&B
Best looking=Corsa
Corsa=quiet at cruise and idle, little bit louder at WOT B&B=Loud at all times, in OD(automatic) a little annoying, but in a 6 speed car I don't know Flowmaster=not the best looking, but sounds great.
Well, I have Flowmaster. I just heard Mojo's car again and it sounds MUCH meaner then mine from inside the car. I've never heard my car driving away from me, so I can't compare that, but, the only time the Flowmasters sound good, around around 2-2500RPMs in my opinion.. Other then that, they are mild.. I have 40 series.....

:nono: .........don't waste your money go straight to the " POWER" and get
the best " EFFECTS".........POWER EFFECTS MUFFLERS........
Its your decision so go to a cruise and listen to what everyone else has. I went to the Big Bear Bash and there were over 1000 vettes there. I listened to everything except power effects. Many of the sounds I heared were in racing conditions. Here were my findings...
Corsa: Not sure why they are so popular... Kind of has a Harleyish sound.
B&B: Loud, Kinda NASCARish... Not what I was looking for.
Flowmaster: Good Dragracing sound... but also sound like a truck or mustang... typical american V8 sound. Not what I wanted...
Borla: Excellent sound. Low constant race car sound. This is what I was looking for, but I ended up liking....
Magnaflow best. It was a close one for me between Borla and Magnaflow.
B&B here as well. Everyone who hears my exhaust says it's the baddest sounding C4 they have ever heard. Mine's a 6-spd 3.73 car, so I think there will be a lot less resonance in my car (1600 -2000 rpm), since I am never driving around in that rpm range...
I've been looking too and can't argue with any of the thoughts listed. If cost is a factor you can't touch Flowmaster cat back. Summit Racing has them for under $550 delivered. You can't touch that on the other systems mentioned.
