If I am going 10-15 in first and punch it, I will break the tires loose on asphalt, but not on concrete. That is running 315 drag radials with a ton of torque over stock. I would not expect anything wrong. Traction is your friend, just because you have it does not mean anything is wrong.

Your right. At lunch time, I got on it good quite a few times, and the thing accellerates like a champ. I guess I was just wondering why it DID have such good traction, cause my 0-60 times are really nice (just a guestimation). I always figured these cars are so light, they should be sleds... I hammered it, around 15MPH (2500-3000 RPMS) and it just launched.. Kept it up through 2nd and I was up around 45-50 in no time, at which point I let up.. Cops are brutal around here, I dont need the ticket right now :)

Sometimes mine will other times it woln't. Air temp, ground temp, tire temp, pavement quality are all factors... How hard you hit the gas too. If you go 20 in 1st and punch it hard and fast, mine will usually roast, but if the gas is eased into quickly at 10 mph it will hook most of the time. In the wet it will spin them all over the place without trying...

i experience the same thing you do when rolling, when the clutch is fully engaged. when i want to break the tires loose for some reason, i will need to slip the clutch and get the revs up a bit. this is also the case for me with a standing start.

maybe it's easier to break loose in the autos since they have the benefit of torque multiplication via the torque converter.

have fun experimenting!

I wouldn't get worried about it. These cars do seem to get pretty good traction. Here is another scenerio for you. Before I modified my 91 much, it had 3.45 gears with the six speed. This is a TPI car, but stick with me. This car made just over 250 rwhp and 360 rwtq. I also used a 150 shot of nitrous that turned on at 2800-3000 rpm. My dyno sheet says that I made 350 rwtq @ 2800rpm without the nos. My point is, that I could hit the NOS and not spin (most of the time) on BFG Comp T/ A's. There will be times that you will probably spin, if your clutch is in good shape. Wet pavement was usually pretty slippery for me. Good luck!

You should try TPI torque with General tires.

1st gear is quite an experience in my car.

Wow, great reply, thanks for the detail. Here's why I'm asking. I hammer it now, sometimes when the roads are wet, and get no tire spin.

It WILL NEVER SPIN even in snow if the Traction Control is ON..

If you turn off the traction control & nail it on a WET road, & you don't spin the tires... SOMETHING IS WRONG ..

Also with a 6 speed, I'd suggest you go to a 3.73 rear, or if you plan on going to the drag strip a lit 4.10 is great.. With 3.73 gears it will FEEL & jump out much better.. & still be around 2000 rpm at 60 mph.
generally i usually agree with eveything ou post.. however, not this time.
After i installed my 383 I found I could spin the 285 khumo MX meats for a good 100 ft with my otherwise stock 2.59 auto... after a 100 ft the ASR has regained control and brought the car under control.. but boy.. with ASR off... i'm all over like a marlin out of water! :steering:

Traction is a good thing. I have Michelin pilots. Won't lite up in a rolling start, but if I pop the clutch, LOOK OUT!

Just chiming in.... Tires can make a night and day difference... If you think you have the power to be frying them, and they arent spinning, be thankful!

I have felt this firsthand, although not on my vette' , but with my mirage I used to have some mid-level michelins for the street...and the car ATE them, I spun the tires until 80 MPH in 3rd!! I now run the falken azenis, and the car only spins until the top of second....tremendous improvement, without any other mods.

I remember with goodyears the car was all over the place, its seemed fast like that, When i got my BGF gforce, I thought something was wrong with my car, I had to pop the clutch to see if it could even spin.
Now, as the tires get older they tend to dry out a bit and like someone was saying the old grey pavement sometimes in second it gets a little tail happy. But new asphalt, no way it just grabs.
